Datuk Lee Chong Wei became the China Open champion today after crushing China’s Chen Long in straight sets.

The national shuttler silenced his critics when he easily defeated the world number one 21-15 and 21-11 in just 50 minutes in the men’s singles final in Fuzhou.

In the first set, the 33-year-old garnered eight consecutive points and was leading 16-8, adding much pressure to Chen Long.

In the semi-finals yesterday, Chong Wei played amazingly and achieved sweet victory when he beat five-time world champion Lin Dan of China whom he last defeated at the 2012 Korea Open Super Series Premier Tournament.

Chong Wei is only the third Malaysian to grab the China Open title after his wife, Wong Mew Choo did it in 2007 and Wong Choong Hann in 2002.
