The Badminton Assiocation of Malaysia(BAM) will hold its next annual general meeting on April, 29 at 11am tentatively at a hotel in Subang Jaya.
Its acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al Amin Abd Majid announced this to the media after he chaired BAM's executive council meeting here today.
He, however, declined to elaborate if there was going to be a contest for the presidency between him and his deputy Datuk Wira Mohamad Norza Zakaria.
"It is a bit premature at this stage to say anything about this.
"It is the opinion of the council members that both of us want what is best for BAM," he said.
He added the council had given both of them the mandate to work out a win- win solution within the next two to three weeks.
"As it is, I am not at liberty to reveal what we are going to do.
"We are very good friends but we have got our respective styles of doing things,"he said.
Mohamad Norza, who was present, said the council knew both their strengths and weaknesses and was very appreciative of their contributions to the game.
"They have finally agreed for us to seek the best solution going forward,"he said.
"Since the process is ongoing, there is now no question of one of us having to make way for the other.I sincerely believe we will be able to handle this,"he said, adding that BAM too had a very good record of leadership transition over the last 30 years.
On a separate matter, Mohamed Al Amin said BAM would once again nominate Datuk Lim Teong Keat as the country representative in the Badminton World Federation(BWF) council in its coming election next month.
"He has served us very well there and it is only appropriate that he be allowed to continue,"he said.
Meanwhile ,commenting on the ongoing Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open World Series held here, Mohamed Al Amin praised host Sarawak for putting in a very successful show with overwheming response from the fans.
He, however, regretted that some of the junior palyers had failed to step up despite the preparations and the supposedly home ground advantage.
"We cannot be having the same excuses for their bad performance not just in this tournament but others as well. They have got to step up their game. We cannot be waiting all the time,"he said.
However, Mohamed Al Amin was glad that the mixed doubles pairs, double pairs and singles players with the exception of Datuk Lee Chiong Wei, had done well although they had not win their games. - BERNAMA
