Athletes must be wary of medication to avoid a doping incident at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August.

Athletics team manager Datuk Salim Parlan reminded the athletes not to take any medicine other than those given by the National Sports Institute (NSI).

"We still have a lot of time. I advise the coaches and athletes to follow the programme. Do not force, if there is slight injury seek advice from the NSI.

"The athletes must not take outside medication. I do not want doping to affect our thorough preparation," he told a press conference for Kita Juara 2017 programme at the National Sports Council here, Wednesday.

Salim said the athletics team wants to make home ground advantage as the platform to restore the glory of Malaysian athleticsin the SEA Games.

"With the thorough preparation, I am confident that our male and female sprinters can produce outstanding results."

He added athletes who want to join the SEA Games contingent can still make it provided they do well in the indoor athletics championships in April.

"We have 46 events and so far 36 have been filled. Athletes with potential will be chosen to fill these places," he added. - Bernama
