UMNO Youth today demanded answers from former Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over his silence on former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin involvement in the foreign exchange (forex) scandal.

Deputy youth chief Khairul Azwan Harun said in the past, Anwar has always blamed the forex scandal on Dr Mahathir and Daim.

“Pemuda UMNO wants to know why Anwar has now changed his mind. Why Anwar is now silent on Mahathir and Daim?,” he asked in a statement.

According to Khairul, in the ongoing investigation of the scandal, Anwar has reportedly singled out Bank Negara Malaysia assistant governor Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop for not disclosing the amount of losses.

“Is he of the opinion Nor had so much power to single-handedly oversee all forex trading?

“Clearly, Anwar’s statements aim to protect his political interests rather than help solve what actually happened in the forex scandal in the 1990s,” he added.
