UMNO has suspended its deputy president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from the party effective immediately, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The decision was made after the UMNO Supreme Council decisive meeting at the party headquarters at Menara Dato' Onn here today.

Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi will stand in to carry out Muhyiddin’s duties until the next party election in 2018. Muhyiddin, however was nowhere to be seen at the meeting as he is currently abroad.

The UMNO Supreme Council meeting started at approximately and was chaired by party president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz had earlier cautioned Muhyiddin about making any threatening statements towards UMNO leadership which had set tongues wagging.

Mohamed Nazri said Muhyiddin should instead wait for the verdict of the UMNO council meeting today before making any statements.

Mohamed Nazri had reportedly adviced Muhyiddin on his statement towards UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor that the council has the power to bypass the disciplinary committee, unless there is concrete evidence.
