Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad believes the support of some UMNO and Barisan Nasional MPs to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to become the next Prime Minister was not for free.

In a statement today, the Langkawi Member of Parliament said he believed the support was tied with conditions, especially in ensuring that the wishes of their two main leaders, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak were met.

“Although Datuk Seri Anwar said that he did not receive support from the six MPs who faced court cases, it is certain that those who gave support to Datuk Seri Anwar had more loyalty to Datuk Seri Najib and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid.

"If the wishes of these two leaders are not fulfilled, then they will act the same as they did to Tan Sri Muhyiddin," he added.

Dr Mahathir said it was up to Muhyiddin to think of options that were open to him.
