UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called on UMNO to focus on the people first in view of the latest crisis in UMNO Kedah.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Muhyiddin said he has been following the political crisis in Kedah and described it as 'very worrying'.

Muhyiddin urged UMNO leaders to resolve the crisis amicably, prioritising the needs of the people rather than personal gains.

"I am saddened that the people and nation who are already burdened with the economic challenges and eroding confidence in the government are further burdened with such an embarassing political crisis," he wrote today.

Led by Kedah UMNO deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, the group said among the reasons for the loss of confidence was because Mukhriz failed to make strategic planning for the party to face the 14th general election.

Ahmad Bashah said that since Mukhriz's appointment as the menteri besar, there had been many problems including the denial of support for the UMNO President and offering of views which confused the people in the state.

He said Mukhriz had also failed to plan and prepare the party for the approaching next general election.

Meanwjile, Mukhriz yesterday said he leaves it entirely to the people to judge his performance after Barisan Nasional returned to govern Kedah following its victory in the 13th general election.

He said that his position as the Menteri Besar is from the mandate given by the people and on the consent of the Kedah Sultan following the Prime Minister’s recommendation.
