Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to get rid of leaders linked to corruption, especially from UMNO, before he could consider meeting the latter.

According to the Langkawi MP, there is currently no necessity for him to meet with the country's number one leader to resolve political disputes if the condition was not met.

Dr Mahathir also confirmed that he had received a letter from Muhyiddin requesting for them to meet in the near future.

However, he has decided to turn down the request as the Prime Minister had explained his stance on forming the Perikatan Nasional government with UMNO.

"He (Muhyiddin) wants to see me. I've met him before, I know my position.

"I have not changed, I have promised that I will not cooperate (with leaders involved in corruption). Muhyiddin too made a promise, (we) see in video clips how he said he would not cooperate with UMNO as well.

"But now he accepts UMNO as the largest party in his government... his party (Bersatu) has only six people (original Members of Parliament) ... UMNO has 51 (including those who joined Bersatu).

"I do not see why I want to see him (Muhyiddin) unless he is able to get rid of them all. Even then, I will have to consider it first," he added when met by the media after attending a meeting of the Bersatu Kedawang Branch here today.

Earlier, Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan had hoped that Dr Mahathir would meet Muhyiddin following insistence from the party members for the two leaders to reconcile.
