Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's action in urging the Conference of Rulers to hear the people's voice is seen as inappropriate and merely for personal interest.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the former premier should respect Malaysia's democratic system, which outlines the electoral process as the main channel in choosing the country's leaders.

He said, through elections, citizens have full power to give trust and mandate to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the Prime Minister.

He said Najib should be given the chance to end his tenure and Dr Mahathir's seems to not respect the parliamentary democratic syatem which has been the key to the administration since the days of independence.

"He (Mahathir) has the right to do anything provided it does not conflict with the country's law. Tun Mahathir has been trying to topple the prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) through the process in the party and he failed.

"He was not satisfied by leaving (UMNO) and established the Citizen's Declaration," he said after attending the Kembara Jalinan Kasih ceremony on Monday.
