The Perlis Umno Liaison Committee wants drastic changes for prompt implementation involving several government leaders and the position of the chief executive officers of government-linked companies, in the interest of the nation.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said it was crucial that such action be studied and implemented quickly, following controversial issues which had attracted the attention of the people.

"The 1MDB and the Goods and Sales Tax (GST) were not appropriately explained, causing the people to question the credibility of the government, and the latest, the issue of purchase of land by a subsidiary of Tabung Haji, has surfaced.

"This matter should not be allowed to drag on. It is time the government take appropriate action to bring back the trust and confidence of the people," he told reporters after chairing a state Umno Liaison Committee meeting here today.

Shahidan said the people were the priority of the government but when those who were depended upon did not perform their duties with full trustworthiness and efficiency, they should be replaced.

"I plan to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tomorrow to submit the proposal of Perlis Umno, including studying and re-evaluating the achievements and effectiveness of certain leaders," he said.
Leaders must be well-versed in giving explanation especially on questions raised by the people

Shahidan, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said other than changes in the line-up of leaders, a new approach on settling the controversial issues must be carried out, to ease speculation.

"Leaders must be well-versed in giving explanation especially on questions raised by the people.

"Weaknesses in tackling the matter will only invite more rumours and the chance of the opposition to add to the government's problems," he addded.
