The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah today expressed the desire to see the Perak State Assembly sitting to become the pride of the people in the state and a source of reference in terms of the proceedings, quality of debates and decorum of the members.

He said that based on the profiles of the members, the Perak State Legislative Assembly could boast a line-up of representatives comprising professionals and political leaders with wide experience in the various sectors.

"The professional qualifications and wealth of experience possessed by the Assemblymen can be demonstrated in their maturity and wisdom in analysing the main issues and policies rationally and in the best manner possible to avoid sensationalisation which are personal in nature," the Sultan said when opening the first sitting of the third term of the 13th Perak State Legislative Assembly, here.

The sitting this time also created history with the maiden appearance of Sultan Nazrin as the 35th Sultan of Perak since he was proclaimed on May 29, 2014.

The Sultan said the State Legislative Assembly was a separate entity and it was an independent branch in the democratic system which upheld the doctrine of the separation of power.

His Royal Highness said the main role of the State Legislative Assembly was to review, reprimand, advise and audit the executive branch.

"They are the responsibilities of every member of the State Legislative Assembly, whether they are backbenchers or members of the opposition.

"Fulfill these roles objectively - constructively aimed at improving the delivery system and the government service system for the sake of the prosperity of the general public," the Sultan said.

Sultan Nazrin also expressed appreciation to the state government under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir for successfully implementing various development programmes and bringing prosperity to the state of Perak.
