The early voting process for the 11th Sarawak state election ended with all the 79 voting centres around the state closing at 5pm today.

A total of 33 voting centres closed at 2pm while the rest closed at 5pm.

Counting of the ballots will commence from 4pm on polling day on May 7.

Election Commission (EC) said until 4pm a total of 69 per cent of early voters had cast their votes today.

A total of 24,604 voters made up of members of the security forces and their spouses are eligible for early voting.

This Saturday, a total of 1,138,650 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes.

The 11th Sarawak election would see 82 state seats being contested, including 11 new ones.

On the nomination day on April 25, Barisan Nasional had won two seats uncontested – Abdul Rahman Ismail for Bukit Kota and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan for Bukit Sari.
