The voting process for the Rompin parliamentary seat by-election began at 8am today with 38 polling centers opened for voters to cast their votes.

Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin is among the earliest to cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan Leban Chondong while PAS candidate Ahmad Nazri had cast his vote at Sekolah Agama Rakyat LKTP Keratong 5.

Several roads were also closed for the by-election. Police sources said the roads closed include Jalan Utama Kuantan – Johor Bahru, in front of Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah.

The road was closed at 8pm yesterday and will be open in stages until the voting and counting process are over.

The Rompin by-election will witness a straight fight between Hasan and Ahmad Nazri of PAS to fill the vacancy following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis who died in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4.
