Pandan Member of Parliament Rafizi Ramli today resigned from his post as PKR secretary-general following his sentencing under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

He will be replaced by Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail who formerly held the same position between 2010 and 2014, according to party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

On November 14, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court sentenced Rafizi to 18 months jail over two charges of leaking classified audit report of 1MDB in March.

The PKR lawmaker however, has appealed the decision at the High Court.

Wan Azizah, in a statement on Friday, said Rafizi's resignation from the secretary-general post had been discussed earlier.

"He told me a year ago that he wished to let go the secretary-general post if found guilty of charges that will strip off his qualification to hold posts in a political organisation,' she said, adding that she had received the letter informing of Rafizi’s intention to resign today.

Wan Azizah said Saifuddin will take over Rafizi's duty effective tomorrow. She said Rafizi, however, will remain as PKR vice-president.
