Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has congratulated Datuk Dr Haron Din on his appointment as the new spiritual leader of PAS.

Haron Din succeeds Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who died on Feb 12 at the age of 84.

"Congratulations to Ustaz Haron Din on his appointment as PAS's new Spiritual Leader," Najib said in his latest Twitter posting today.

PAS's Majlis Syura PAS made the decision to appoint Haron Din, who was Nik Abdul Aziz's deputy as its new spiritual leader at a meeting at the party's headquarters here on March 8. Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob was appointed his deputy.

Haron, who hails from Bohor Mali, Kangar, Perlis, is also the founder of Persatuan Kebajikan dan Pengubatan Islam Malaysia (Darussyifa'), an Islamic welfare body.

He holds a PhD in Syariah from University Darul Ulum, Cairo, Egypt and has been active in politics since 1974.
