Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) today named Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister candidate if the Opposition wins in the next general election.

Its chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the former Finance Minister records when he was in the government proved that he is the best man to hold the position.

Nik Nazmi then cited the France president Emmanuel Jean-Michael Frederick Macron won in the country's presidential election recently as an example of how a person had to fight a more established rival.

"His party is new, the person is young, his rival was more experienced and was expected to win. But Anwar always said that never underestimate the people's intelligence," he said in his keynote address for the Youth wing's congress today.

He said Anwar's strengths were the reason he was given the mandate to lead.

"Anwar had reminded us that the victory in a general election is just the beginning. We want to win because then only we can bring changes," he said.

He said Anwar had also shown the recipe to ride on the strengths one has.

"After he was released in 2004 and as soon as he returned from Munich, he had organised several meets to build cooperation.

Anwar, 70, is currently serving his five years sentence at Sungai Buloh prison for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
