Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election, Suhaimi Sabudin has pledged to continue serving the constituents despite his defeat.

"This by-election is a very valuable experience for me in my political career. I am very thankful to the voters who had supported me," he told reporters here Thursday.

Meanwhile, Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow noted the good cooperation among the component parties, UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and People's Progressive Party during the by-election.

"But the ballot box has spoken; we will conduct a post-mortem to identify the weaknesses and rectify them," he said.

Penang UMNO liaison chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said the by-election result was a message from the voters to the BN to work harder for the future.

"It will be a guide for us in our struggle. We have a good candidate, young, local, no problem.

"We also have a good machinery that can work at full capacity and energetically," he said.
