Delegates at the 2016 Penang DAP convention here voiced their protest over the party's decision to cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), which is chaired by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

A delegate from Taman Chai Leng, Shamsher Singh Thind said DAP should not cooperate with any individuals who used to be the party's enemy merely to win the 14th General Election.

He said Dr Mahathir who was now willing to cooperate with any party in order to achieve his goal to topple the government.

"Are DAP members not ashamed to shake hands with the enemy, Tun M? He should first apologise to DAP before talking about working with DAP," he said during the debate at the convention yesterday.

The situation became tense when DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng stood up and asked Shamser to retract his statement against Dr Mahathir, saying that DAP members should avoid pointing the blame finger at any party for their past mistakes.

Shamsher also questioned the direction the party was heading and claimed that Pakatan Harapan had no common understanding among its members and referred to the last Sarawak state election which saw PKR and DAP both fielding their candidates in six seats.

The DAP convention, which had the presence of 287 delegates when it started Sunday, turned dismal with less than 50 people still in the hall when the winding session took place at about 4pm. -- Bernama
