PAS Ulama Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh said PAS aims for a simple majority win in the 14th General Election (GE14) to wrest Kedah from the Barisan Nasional (BN).

"One reason why we will hold the 63rd PAS Muktamar (general assembly) in Kedah this year is to show that we are ready to win the 14th General Election," he told reporters after opening the Penang PAS Convention at An-Nahdhoh Foundation, here Sunday.

The PAS muktamar, scheduled to be held in Kota Sarang Semut, Kedah from April 27 to May 1, will see the election of a new leadership for GE14.

Nik Muhammad Zawawi said PAS had made numerous studies in Kedah and found that the party received good support among the people in the state.

"The multi racial population of Kedah support PAS to form the next state government. As such, PAS will put more candidates in Kedah," he added.

The last time PAS formed the Kedah government was in 2008 when it won 16 state seats. PKR won four seats while the DAP won one seat. --Bernama
