The cooperation between PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) is seen as a winning strategy for the Oppositions to lure rural voters at the 14th General Election (GE14).

This was the view of PPBM deputy president, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, in the Opposition's struggle to triumph at the upcoming general election.

Mukhriz stressed it is crucial for the Oppositions to have an approach that can attract the support of Malay voters in the rural areas.

"At the same time, it is important to have an approach that is attractive enough to lure Malay voters in the rural areas. Without their support, our chance to triumph at GE14 will be slim," he said.

"The seats contested by DAP are focused in the city, where the percentage of Malay voters are not as many as those in the rural areas,” said Mukhriz, in an interview with Hari Ini 8 here today.

Mukhriz however dismissed the allegation that Chinese voters are not supportive of the PPBM due to PAS involvement in the political pact.

“There is such allegation, but I believed that non-Malay voters mainly from the Chinese community are pragmatic in choosing their representatives.

However, Mukhriz also said that it was mandatory for the Oppositions to have an approach that can attract non-Malay voters in rural areas.

“That is why, DAP understood the need for us to form an understanding with PAS for us to face the challenges by BN as a team with similar approach,” said Mukhriz.

The main mission of the Opposition was to ensure a one-on-one contestation against Barisan Nasional at the 14th General Election will be achieved.

He also explained that it is mandatory for the Oppositions to have an approach that can attract non-Malay
voters in rural areas.

“This is important because without their support, our chance to win at the GE will be affected.

“That is why, DAP understood the need for us to form an understanding with PAS for us to face the challenges by BN as a team with similar approach,” said Mukhriz.

He was commenting on the formation of a PAS-PPBM Joint Technical Committee, following a meeting with delegations from both parties headed by PAS deputy president, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Mukhriz.

The meeting was held at an undisclosed location here today.

The committee was formed to device a follow-up strategy in any decisions made by both parties. The meeting also witnessed an understanding by PAS and PPBM in facing GE14.
