Pas decision in ending its ''tahaluf siyasi'' (political cooperation) with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) shows the party has realised that it does not share the same political direction as PKR.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the move by Pas was apt and should serve as a lesson for former UMNO leaders who were now in cahoots with the opposition parties to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government and UMNO to reconsider their decision.

"The (Pas) Syura Council also decided recently to sever ties between Pas and PKR, showing that Pas now realises the real objectives for the parties (in the opposition) to form a pact.

"But, we are said because our former (UMNO) leaders, when they are angry at UMNO (leaders), they go to the opposition, an action which in the end destroys the Malays and Islam," he said in his speech at the Kuala Nerus District "Desa Semarak" Carnival at Kampung Telaga Daing here today.

Also present were Batu Rakit assemblyman Bazlan Abd Rahman and State Social Welfare director Dr Faridah Mat.

Last May 11, the Pas Syura Council unanimously decided to end the party''s political cooperation with PKR with immediate effect .

Ahmad Razif , who is Terengganu UMNO Liaison chairman, praised the action by Pas leadership in showing the party''s interest to cooperate with UMNO, especially in the agenda on the development of Islam and the Malays.

"Now, we are beginning to see signs (of cooperation between PAS and UMNO) in Terengganu with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and state executive council member A Latiff Awang and Datuk Pehemi Yusoff together throwing artificial reefs in waters off Marang recently," he added. - BERNAMA
