PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said it is the end of the road for the fully functional opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Wan Azizah in a statement on Wednesday expressed her regret that the resolution achieved during the 61st PAS Muktamar to sever ties with DAP was accepted without debate.

“KEADILAN expresses regret on the resolution that was accepted without debate at the 61st PAS Muktamar and subsequently the DAP Central Executive Committee’s announcement of the end of Pakatan Rakyat that KEADILAN considers hasty.

“In light of this, the political coalition that is Pakatan Rakyat no longer functions formally," stated Wan Azizah who added that the decision was made during a meeting held by the Biro Politik KEADILAN on June 16, 2015.

She also said that despite all, in the spirit of comradeship and Pakatan Rakyat Common Policy Framework, PKR will carry on pioneering efforts to establish a coalition incorporating different political parties, non-governmental organizations, groups and key personnel to defeat Barisan Nasional.

"Even so, we are thankful to Allah SWT for the spirit and cooperation of Pakatan Rakyat in Selangor under the leadership of Datuk Menteri Besar, Azmin Ali, and in the leadership of the Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng continues.

"And in the same spirit, and based on the Pakatan Rakyat Common Policy Framework, KEADILAN will continue to give support to the Datuk Menteri Besar of Kelantan, Datuk Ahmad Yaakob," she said.

The PAS Ulama Council’s unanimous decision to pass the emergency motion to sever ties with DAP during its 61st PAS Annual General Assembly has been seen as the tipping point to the whole PR fiasco.

The recent announcement made by DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng that the central executive committee (CEC) had unanimously resolved that Pakatan Rakyat ceases to exist made the future of the coalition an obscurity.

Demise of PR: Weren't we warned that this will happen?

'All political parties are in trouble, prepare for the worst' - Ku Li

PR was formed following the 12th General Election(GE) in 2008 spearheaded by former Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alongside key oppositional leaders to bring together the three largest opposition parties in the country to bring an end to the current ruling party.

PKR believed that the strong support gained for PR which comprised of PKR, DAP and PAS was driven by the will of the rakyat calling for reformation.

Hopes were invested in PR to replace BN as the federal government in the upcoming 14th GE.

"The rakyat’s hope is based upon the common principles agreed and fought for together by Pakatan Rakyat as represented in the PR Common Policy," stated Wan Azizah.
