The opposition should also be involved in the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP), said UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

Hishammuddin, who is alsoDefenceMinister, said this was to ensure a more transparent political funding in each political party in the country.

"This must be done withoutfavouritism, we should not be hypocrites on this matter, (it should not) only involve UMNO and its leadership.

"We also want to know how the opposition parties get their funding because there are no political parties in the world that do not need funding," he said after opening the Kuala Krau UMNO Division delegates meeting, on Sunday.

The meeting was also attended by Kuala Krau UMNO Division chief Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said, who is also Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker.

Hishammuddinwas commenting on the formation of the JKNMPP to draw up a political funding action plan of integrity that is comprehensive and inclusive, which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently.

He added that the formation of the committee was a step forward in maturing the country's political system.
