The 14th General Election (GE14) would not be postponed until after 2018, as claimed by a recent news report, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.

It was a misreport from a news agency on his comments regarding the date of the general election, he said.

"The German translator did not understand, what I said was that the election is not due until 2018," he told newsmen after chairing the UMNO Supreme Council meeting here today.

Previously, a German news agency had quoted Najib as saying that GE14 would not be held before 2018.

On the redelineation exercise, Najib said the UMNO Supreme Council would prepare counter proposals from all state divisions to be tabled to the Election Commission (EC).

The EC had been presenting the redelineation of electoral boundaries for the entire country for a month until Oct 14.

Meanwhile, Najib also said that UMNO principally agreed with the National Consultative Committee on Political Financing’s suggestion for a new legislation, namely the Contribution and Political Financing Act, to combat money politics.

Last year, the premier was under the scrutiny regarding an amount of RM2.6 billion credited into his personal account which was confirmed later by Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) as a donation.

As a result, Najib established the committee on Aug 14 last year to address public concern in improving political financing integrity.
