The Prime Minister today announced the formation of the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP) to develop a political funding action plan of integrity that is comprehensive and inclusive.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the plan is essential in addressing issues regarding political funding, especially when there is no regulation that could determine whether it was right or wrong, although there are some regulations on election expenses.

"Thus, there is an urgent need to monitor political funding in order to ensure accountability and transparency to create a healthy political environment.

"This initiative is also part of the agenda in the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the NKRA (National Key Result Areas) to establish good governance and check and balance mechanism," he said at a media conference here today.

JKNMPP will be chaired by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan and Senator Datuk Seri Idris Jala as Deputy Chairman.

"It is hoped that this plan will boost confidence not only among political party members, but also to the people at large and the future generation," he added.

The Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) will act as the reference and consultation center for JKNMPP with the help of the secretariat, and the allocation of th eIntegrity and Governance Division (ITU) from the PM's Department.
