Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) had to decide based on a comprehensive assessment of the leader’s choice and protem committee of the party including the divisional stage.

PPBM deputy president, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the selection is not meant for just top leadership but also at grassroot level.

Mukhriz cited the Baling case where 13 members had exited the party after they were reportedly dissatisfied with the decision in the selection of the protem committee for Baling made by top PPBM leadership.

“What happened was that they were unhappy after their representatives were not selected, even though we have offered them to be committee members on divisional level.

“I’m upset but allegation that top leadership must make the decision for the grassroot level is not true as the latter are the strength of the party and they are open to voice their opinions,” said Mukhriz after the launching ceremony of PPBM futsal match here today.

Prior to this, 13 PPBM members, led by Baling member, Ali Ahmad had reportedly quit from the party over their dissatisfaction over the committee selection issue for the party in Feb.

Mukhriz said, the group was given a long time to form the party protem committee but had failed to do so during the stipulated period.

He added that the selection cannot be delayed as the 14th General Election (GE14) will be held in the near future.

When the selection process is made, members of the division must choose their leaders, he added.

Mukhriz admittedly said he was upset with their move to leave the party and hoped they would continue their struggle for the party.

“They were the movers in Baling. They were the pioneers. I must admit they themselves spent time and money to register new members, that is why I appreciate what they have done before,” he concluded.
