The new government led by Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin hopes to get an endorsement from former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Muhyiddin said the government was legal and in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

For that reason, the Pagoh MP said he had written a letter to Dr Mahathir to meet anytime and discuss the country's interests.

He added that Dr Mahathir had replied saying that it was not yet time to meet.

"I've told you, I have written a letter a week ago. In the first paragraph, I pray for Tun M and his family's health, and in the second (paragraph) I say if I had done something that offended him, I apologize."

In the third paragraph, he added, he wrote that it was time for them to meet.

"But I received an answer from him saying that it was not yet time to meet," he said at a press conference after chairing his first Cabinet meeting since the establishment of the Perikatan Nasional government at the Perdana Putra Building here today.

Muhyiddin said the government he had formed and presided over today was a government for all, and the people hoped that the government could provide the best service for them after the recent political upheaval.

He added that it was not the right time to hold snap polls, adding that the new government was here to serve.

“I wish that everybody, not just Dr Mahathir, would give us the encouragement for us to do our best.”
