Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah today said he refused to meddle in the affairs in connection with the best candidate to succeed the Prime Minister's seat.

Razaleigh was commenting on the call former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim who had asked former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to support Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, for the post even though the two were once dubbed the ‘nemesis’.

KuLi said that he has no issues working with Dr Mahathir or anyone for the sake of the country.

“I have no problem working with Dr Mahathir or anyone. But the question of (who to succeed) the Prime Minister ... that's another matter, I cannot intervene," he told reporters at Parliament today.

KuLi also denied allegations citing that Dr Mahathir and himself are not on good terms and still squabbling.

"I'm friends with Dr Mahathir for ten years. I'm not just sitting around in Parliament ... this has been the tenth terms," he said, adding that his relationship with Dr Mahathir has not turned sour.

Commenting on the process of taking over as prime minister, he said based on populist views, the transition should be based on hierarchy.

He also stressed that it is the people’s views and not his.

Yesterday, a news portal had reported that Zaid had urged Dr Mahathir to back Ku Li as he is regarded as ‘the best person’ to become prime minister.

Zaid also said that that both veteran politicians should put their differences aside for greater purpose.
