DAP's Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang has until 11.30am to retract his statement and apologise to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia or risk being suspended.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said as a veteran lawmaker, Lim should already know all the procedures in Parliament.

"If someone would table a motion against me, I wouldn't leave the hall until the session is over," said Azalina when met at the Parliamentary lobby this morning.

She said it was only a notice of motion to suspend the DAP Parliamentary leader, and he can explain himself between now and the time the motion is read.

"And if the Speaker accepts what he has to say, the government is happy to withdraw the motion. It is now between him and the Speaker," she said.

Azalina, who is the minister in charge of Parliament, said there are many ways to contact the Speaker, and that there was no reason for Lim to stall his decision.

"What Pandikar want is for Kit Siang to withdraw (his statement) and apologize. To date, no motion has been tabled yet, this is between the Speaker and Kit Siang.

"The government is not involved until the Speaker asks me to table the motion," she added.

Yesterday, a Azalina intended to table a motion to suspend the DAP stalwart from Parliament over his remarks towards Pandikar.

On Monday, Lim had accused Pandikar of abusing his power when he temporarily suspended the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Pandikar then ordered Lim to retract his statement and apologise for making such allegations or risk the possibility of suspension.
