The issues raised by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must be explained thoroughly by the relevant parties to calm the situation, says UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

He said the Finance Ministry is particular, must explain the concerns raised by the former prime minister and said that is the only way to garner back support and trust of Malaysians.

He also brushed aside rumours that there were personal issues between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Dr Mahathir.

“I am sure it has nothing to do with crooked bridge alone, but there were many questions raised and explanations must be made,” he said after launching a campaign to increase the number of UMNO Youth members.

“This is important so that we also can explain. It will not only convince Dr Mahathir but also the people,” he added.

Shafie said despite that Cabinet had decided to hand over the issue to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), he welcomed those with information to shed some light.
