Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he had never questioned party funds when he was the UMNO deputy president.

He said this was a practice, even from the time of former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Speaking at the UMNO Pasir Gudang division meeting, Najib said Dr Mahathir's deputies also never questioned him over the matter as it was the party president's who was entrusted with the funds.

"Four years ago I had suggested that we set up laws on political fundings. But the opposition refused. They didn't want to reveal who were their donors," he said in his speech.

“Why question now when I as the party president receive funds for the benefit of UMNO and community,” he questioned.

He said at times when party machinery needed financial aid, they would come to him.

“Can ask from me. The Menteri Besar also can ask from me. But who would I ask from? I need to work for it,” he said.

Najib reiterated that in obtaining the political funds, he had never broke any laws.

“That is why the MACC had confirmed that the funds were not from 1MDB and not bribes,” he said adding that the funds were not for his personal use.

Earlier in his speech, Najib had called for more keyboard warriors to handle the allegations by certain quarters who want to topple the party and the current administration.

"We need to create a new group of soldiers, who are keyboard warriors," he said.
