Only a general election will be able to solve the crisis currently faced by the country, said DAP’s Lim Guan Eng.

Lim said the country currently faced two crises, one political and the other economy.

“I believe if the administration is reshuffled, the problems can be addressed,” he said during the Opposition MPs meeting at Parliament parade grounds today.

He also reiterated his earlier call that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign to allow a transparent probe into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) crisis.

“The prime minister must rest. If he stays on, it will affect the investigations,” he added.

The Penang chief minister also called to freeze all business dealings involving 1MDB.

“As Penang chief minister, I will seek the state government’s opinion in freezing all 1MDB land sales in Penang,” he said.

Earlier, Lim together with other Opposition MPs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) held a meeting at the parade grounds to discuss 1MDB alleged involvement in election funding.

Led by Opposition Leader and PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, several Opposition chiefs were spotted including DAP Parliament head, Lim Kit Siang, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.

Last Friday, The Wall Street Journal published a report claiming that almost US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of funds from 1MDB had been channelled to personal bank accounts of the prime minister.

On the same day, the Prime Minister's Office dismissed the WSJ report and said it was a political sabotage to topple a democratically-elected prime minister.

1MDB also stated that it had never channelled funds to Najib.
