Kedah DAP today described the decision by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to cut ties with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang as undemocratic.

Its chairman Tan Yen Chai said the country practised democracy and PAS had the right to submit the motion in Parliament.

"DAP will be jeopardised and if there is a need to reject hudud law, reject is in Parliament through votes. Then it is democratic," he told a media conference here Saturday.

Meanwhile Kedah DAP organisation secretary Law Theng Hooi said Guan Eng's action was hasty and expressed concern that it would cause negative perception among voters and the crisis within the Pakatan Rakyat to worsen.

DAP central executive committee (CEC) which met last Tuesday made a stand to cut all ties with Abdul Hadi.

Guan Eng, who is also Penang chief Minister, in a statement, said DAP could no longer work with Abdul Hadi for being allegedly insincere and not having any dignity.

This followed the move by Abdul Hadi to propose private member's Bill on the implementation of the Syariah Criminal Code 11 1993 (Amendment 2015) or hudud in Parliament.

Kedah DAP committee led by Tan is not recognised by the National DAP CEC when, in May 2013, Guan Eng appointed Zairil Khir Johari as Kedah DAP interim chairman.

At the 2014 Kedah DAP ordinary convention, Derga state assemblyman Tan Kok Yew was elected as Kedah DAP chairman.

However the Registrar of Societies (ROS) recognised the committee chaired by

Lee Guan Aik as that time as valid, giving rise to two factions in Kedah DAP.

Tan Chun Ping was elected to replace Guan Aik at the 2014 Kedah DAP ordinary convention before Tan helmed it.
