Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) will be registered as a new political party with a new name on September 14.

According to Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, the new name for the movement have not been finalised but will be decided by September.

He said GHB’s first convention will be held in Kuala Lumpur on September 16.

He said the time frame also marks the 100 days of the PAS Muktamar which was held in June.

He said despite the 100 days, PAS leaders have yet to correct their weaknesses.

“But these are just plans yet, we have to see what are the political developments by then and most important is whether the people would agree to the new pact,” he said after the GHB road show last night where about 3,000 people had attended.

“The name of the party is not decided but it will be an Islamic party,” he added.

Commenting on the road show, Khalid said the response last night was extraordinary with many young people who came to listen to the talk and explanation.

Khalid said the new party would still champion for hudud but added that the priority is to win the next general election with a new pact.

Several PAS leaders like Datuk Husam Musa, Kelaboram state assemblyman Mohamed Zaki and Tendong state assemblyman Rozi Mohamed who were earlier said to attend the road show, did not turn up.

Asked to comment on this, Khalid said the question should be directed to those leaders.
