Gerakan Media Merdeka (Geramm) slammed DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang for acting unprofessionally towards a TV3 reporter during a press conference at Datuk Zaid Ibrahim's residence yesterday.

In a statement posted on Facebook recently, the journalist rights group said, "Lim became visibly agitated and lost his cool when asked if he would be speaking about the BMF and forex scandals differently if former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not his ally now."

According to Geramm, the Gelang Patah MP also did not give any opportunity for the journalist to defend himself.

"Geramm would like to stress that all journalists have a right to ask questions and perform their duties without any hindrance.

"As a veteran politician, Lim should be showing a good example by not losing his cool towards a reporter who is only carrying out his duties," the statement said.

Nevertheless, Geramm also urged the respective dailies' editorial team to observe principles of ethical journalism in their daily operations, and to avoid further erosion of their credibility in this era of borderless information.
