DAP should follow the directive of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) or the party's candidates will not be allowed to contest in the coming 14th general election, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said this was because the DAP leadership had the tendency of disobeying RoS' directives made based on the party's own constitution and the Societies Act 1966.

"Due to their failure to comply, according to the Societies Act 1966, when the general election comes, the nomination papers of a political party must be signed by its officials or those given the mandate by the party.

"If the party leadership wants to field candidates from the party's central executive committee or leadership line-up that is not recognised by RoS, the nomination papers cannot be issued out nor accepted.

"As a result, the party's candidates cannot contest in the elections. If they still want to, the RoS directive must to obeyed," Ahmad Zahid said after opening the Gombak UMNO division delegates conference, here, today.

The RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah had reportedly said that the re-election of DAP's Central Executive Committee (CEC) and office-bearers on Sept 29, 2013 was invalid based on the law.

He said the re-election held should be based on the list of delegates with the right to attend and vote for the CEC on Dec 15, 2012 involving 2,576 delegates from 865 branches.

This is because only legitimate and recognised CEC members can appoint leaders to the main party posts, according to the Societies Act 1966 and DAP constitution.
