Former UMNO president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will be attending the UMNO General Assembly 2015 which will be held from Dec 8-12 although he has yet to receive the invitation letter.

"I have not received any letter from the party but I deem the words from him (UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) is an invitation," he told reporters after presenting the prizes to the winners of a Proton car design competition at the Proton Excellence Centre near here today.

Dr Mahathir said the statement by Ahmad Zahid recently that he should attend the assembly could be deemed as an invitation.

Ahmad Zahid had said Dr Mahathir, Malaysia's fourth prime minister, should attend the assembly because party members still respected him as a former UMNO president.

Dr Mahathir added that his presence at the assembly was only as a guest and not to make speeches.
