Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, along with four others who have been dropped from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), have refused to accept their axing from the party which they considered as a wrongful dismissal and against the law.

According to a joint statement issued by them late Thursday night, Dr Mahathir along with Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah, Dr Maszlee Malik dan Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will also use legal channels to defend their rights.

The statement added they did not agree with the action that their membership in Bersatu has ceased immediately and did not give them the right to defend themselves.

“By a letter dated 28.05.2020, it has been stated that the five of us have allegedly violated the provisions of the 10.2.2 and 10.2.3 of the Bersatu Constitution.

“The allegation contained in the letter is that five of us took our seats in Parliament on 18.05.2020 as representatives of the people who did not support the Perikatan Nasional government and caused us to violate the constitution of Bersatu.

"From the above definition, it is unreasonable and illogical for us to be said to have left the party as we have only complied with the law and our rights under the Federal Constitution as a legitimate Members of Parliament," the statement said.

They also noted that there was chaos in the current management of the party where the letter relieving them of their membership was signed by an improper individual.

“It is signed by an individual who is not authorized under the party's constitution and did not reflect Bersatu is being managed in a professional manner.

"The act of an organising secretary of sending such a letter to one of the founders of Bersatu itself is very repulsive and uncouth," said the statement which was shared with the media.

All five of them are determined to bring Bersatu back to the right track and would no longer be used by those who were greedy of power and position.
