The Barisan Nasional (BN) government is not an arrogant government, but instead a government that is always willing to acknowledge its weaknesses and work to improve them, according to Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said the government was also prepared to take criticism, but it might need certain period of time to solve each of the issues raised by the people.

"We know our weaknesses. We are willing to work to improve them. We are not an arrogant government. We are not a haughty government and not a government that insists to be the best in everything, but we are willing to improve what needs to be improved."

Najib said this when launching the Yayasan Pewaris Batu Building here on Monday.

The BN chairman and UMNO president also stressed that street demonstration was not the best method to solve an issue as the government had its own methods to solve it.

"I have said to give it some time. We had it worse during the Asian economic crisis before. How many companies collapsed then? The value of ringgit dropped to RM4.88 (against US dollar) at that time, the economic growth was minus seven per cent , our reserves were only RM20 billion, but we did not try to topple the government," he said.

Najib said during that time, all quarters, including himself, had given their support to the country's leadership.

"I personally had been vocal in supporting the leadership then because we want the problem, whatever it was, to be solved by the top leadership of the country and this is how we do it in Malaysia," he said.

The prime minister also expressed confidence that if undivided support were given to the party leadership, all problems could be solved easily.

Meanwhile, he also hoped that the Yayasan Pewaris Batu Building, which houses Batu UMNO division office, would boost the spirit of UMNO members to continue fighting for UMNO causes.

Also present were UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
