Bakar Bata Assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was sworn-in today as the new Kedah Menteri Besar replacing Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir.

The 66-year-old took his oath before the Kedah Council of Regency, chaired by Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah at the Istana Anak Bukit here.

The council members who were present are Tan Sri Tunku Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah and Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

Also present during the ceremony were Assemblymen and Members of Parliament in Kedah.

Yesterday, Kedah State Secretary, Datuk Bakar Din named Ahmad Bashah as the new Menteri Besar of Kedah to take over from Mukhriz.

The announcement came following Mukhriz proclaimed his resignation as the Menteri Besar with immediate effect after losing the support of the majority of the Kedah State Assembly.
