PKR’s Seberang Jaya assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin has resigned as state executive councillor of Penang effective today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed this at a press conference upon chairing the weekly state executive council meeting.

Chow said Dr Afif had only quit as a state Exco and will remain as a Pakatan Harapan assemblyman for Seberang Jaya.

Afif, who held the state Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries portfolio, said he submitted his resignation following a discussion with Chow.

"After seven years, this morning I have tendered my resignation as State Executive Councillor of Penang effective today.”

He also expressed his thanks for the opportunity given to serve all these years.

Afif announced that he will remain in PKR and wait for the central committee to decide on his fate in the party.

The PKR Youth Deputy Chief is a known to be a supporter of former PKR Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali who left Pakatan Harapan, triggering a political turmoil that led to the collapse of the coalition as the ruling federal government.
