The call by some UMNO party leaders for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's resignation as UMNO deputy president is unwise and should be opposed, said UMNO Youth vice chief, Khairul Azwan Harun.

He said some UMNO leaders made the call after Muhyiddin was dropped from the Cabinet by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"Some openly pressed for the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and this will only threaten ties of the top leadership and the institution of UMNO.

"Actually, this is not a question of the Cabinet or national administration, and UMNO Youth members as warriors of the party will defend the matter as we do not want to set a bad example for the coming generations and that we have not lost our culture of respecting the leaders," he said.

He told reporters after opening the Hulu Terengganu UMNO Youth meeting here today which was also attended by Hulu Terengganu UMNO Youth chief Johari Abu Bakar.

In a Cabinet reshuffle by Najib on July 28, UMNO deputy president, Muhyiddin was dropped as deputy prime minister together with UMNO vice-president Mohd Shafie Afdal, as Rural and Regional Development Minister.
