Making a wrong business decision such as in investment is a normal circumstance, but abusing power in a company such as 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is something that cannot and will not be tolerated.

UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak will not protect anyone if there were any wrongdoings in 1MDB’s management.

“The president has stated that he will not stand by anyone who commits misconduct in (the running of) 1MDB.

“He also related that the accounts auditing by Deloitte Malaysia (on 1MDB) was not a normal audit but done forensically,” said Ismail Sabri after chairing the UMNO division leaders meeting with Najib at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Sunday.

Ismail Sabri, who spoke as meeting coordinator, said Najib had clarified Deloitte’s explanation that there had been no foul play in 1MDB’s accounts.

“Datuk Seri Najib had also stated that this matter will be brought to the Auditor-General as well as to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), of which some of its members are made up of critical Opposition politicians such as Tony Pua.

“This means, neither Najib nor the government is hiding anything,” he said.

The meeting, attended by 160 division leaders, among others discussed the party’s preparation for the 14th General Election, the UMNO general meeting, the 11th Malaysia Plan as well as feedback on current issues.

Ismail Sabri said, the meeting was initiated by division chiefs to show solidarity for the Prime Minister and party president who, of late, had been facing many accusations from various quarters.

“As division leaders, it is our duty to be with Datuk Seri Najib in dealing with the pressure, humiliation and insults,” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked by reporters on Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s absence at the meeting, Ismail Sabri said the UMNO deputy president had stated his intention to come but was tied up with other matters.
