Pandan MP Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat does not deny the possibility of him contesting as an independent candidate in the 13th General Election.

He said regardless of his decision, it will take into account the Pandan people’s interest and welfare.

“I don’t have many choices in this matter. The fact that they dropped my candidacy in Pandan has forced me to think of alternatives.

“Whatever it is, just wait....I will make the appropriate decision when the time comes,” he told Astro Awani.

If Ong decides to contest in Pandan as an independent candidate, he is set to contest against PKR Strategic Director Rafizi Ramli and MCA’s Gary Lim.

The former Transport Minister served for five terms in in Ampang Jaya between 1989 to 2004 and in Pandan from 2004 till now.

Ong’s candidary drop from Pandan has shocked many quarters as he is considered a winnable candidate.

In fact, according to a survey conducted by Profesor Madya Dr. Mohd Fuad Mat Jali from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia recently, found that Ong is the first choice of the people of Pandan ahead of Rafizi and Gary.

In the survey, 66.3 per cent chose Ong while 22.4 per cent chose Rafizi.

A total of 61.2 per cent respondants said Ong should be retained as a candidate in Pandan.

In the 12th General Election, Ong was the only MCA candidate in Selangor who won the seat. Ong defeated Syed Syahir Syed Mohamud from PKR with a 2,900 majority.
