P.88 Temerloh Parliament incumbent, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah offered to merge Mentakab and Temerloh town as a strategic thrusts for AkuJanji for the area.

The BN candidate present the idea in an effort to bring development based on innovation and at the same time, strengthen the heritage and tradition in the area.

"We are talking about infrastructure development and at the same time we talk about heritage and tradition of all the races in Malaysia," he said in Mentakab today.

Mentakab-Temerloh town merger is seen as a strategic approach in generating a more balanced economic activity and aims to transform agriculture and high technology-based fisheries.

"For this to happen, close work with local authorities and local communities is essential, "said Saifuddin when asked about the execution of the idea.

Mentakab is the state assembly located in Temerloh Parliament.

Apart from that, the idea is seen as an indirect idea to cultivate a research and development (R & D) among the people, especially for the younger generation.

"All this while everyone just eat catfish but now we can promote the benefits as well and this requires R&D, "he said, describing the relationship of each of his promises.

The AkuJanji also outlines six areas of development and another 27 promises to add value to existing the development.

It includes education and training, health and fitness; jobs and the economy; religious and socio-cultural; infrastructure and facilities and the participation and civil society.

Also on focus are the promises to provide wi-fi in every school library and to enhance the effectiveness of the Consultative Council of the Temerloh Parliament which he introduced last term.

In the upcoming GE-13, Saifuddin who is known for his stance and character of a 'reformist' in UMNO will be challenged by a popular young candidate in Pas which is Nasruddin Hasan.

In the last general election, Saifuddin won the contest when he beats the candidate from PKR, Ahmad Nizam Hamid, with the majority of 2,441 votes.

"I would like to wish him welcome to Temerloh," that was his message to his rival who is not a local there.

P.88 Temerloh has 66,105 registered voters by a majority of 63 per cent Malay voters.

Middle class and below is up two-thirds of voters. Apart from Mentakab, this area also contains two assembly seats which are Lanchang and Kuala Semantan.

Based on UKM’s KITA-MESRA study, over 55 percent of respondents agreed that the development programs led by Saifuddin last term was a success.
