Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin was named the Barisan Nasional direct candidate for Shah Alam parliamentary seat for the 13th General Election.

Zulkifli is expected to go up against PAS’s Khalid Abdul Samad, the incumbent, who is expected to defend his seat.

In 2008, Zulkifli won the Kulim-Bandar Baharu seat on the PKR ticket.

However, he was kicked out of the party and became a BN friendly independent MP after he lodged a police report against Khalid over the “Allah” issue.

This announcement was made by the BN Selangor election director, Datuk Seri Najib Razak here today.

Zulkifli recently courted controversy when a video of him belittling Hindu deities began circulating on YouTube.

Shah Alam is a constituency with a majority Malay population of approximately 70%.

It was also there that several right-wing Malay groups dragged a severed cow head to the state secretariat building in 2008 in protest of the Pakatan state government’s decision to shift a Hindu temple to a Malay-majority neighbourhood.

Khalid is considered one of PAS’s more liberal leaders. He won the seat in 2008 with a 9,315 majority.
