DAP’s decision to shift its former Member of Parliament (MP) to different constituencies is to ensure a win for Pakatan Rakyat and to change the federal government.

That was said by former Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching who is now contesting for the Kulai Parliamentary seat.

“I believe this is the right decision. I need to support Pakatan Rakyat so that we are able to change the federal government,” said Teo.

Even though this decision meant that she would be leaving the people of Serdang who gave her a win during the 2008 election, she said that her move is also in the best interest of the people at Serdang and the party.

For the Kulai seat, she will be competing against Barisan Nasional’s Teo Chian Hein.

“It’s hard to say about my chances of winning. It’s still 50-50. Honestly, I don’t know much about him but I know he is close with the Chinese community there. However, I need to convince the voters there to look at the future.”

Apart from Teo, two other DAP candidates in Johor were from a different constituency. DAP Parliamentary leader and former Ipoh Timur MP will contest for the Gelang Patah seat while former Bukit Bendera MP will contest for the Kluang parliamentary seat while former.

MCA Perak Secretary Datuk Tan Chin Meng said that DAP only cared about winning and has abandoned its voters in Perak and Selangor.

“After only one term, debutante MP Teo’s departure indicates that she has no confidence in retaining Serdang as her constituents have grown disillusioned with the Selangor Pakatan government for failing to deliver on 85% of their much-hyped 2008 general election promises,” Tan said.

Meanwhile, Gelang Patah candidate Lim Kit Siang has invited his challenger from Barisan Nasional Datuk Ghani Othman to a series of seven public debates on the importance of the 13th general election and Malaysia.

As reported earlier on AstroAwani.com, the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat will be a testing ground for both parties and a clash between the two ‘heavyweights’.
