The Labuan parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight in the 13th general election, among a new face from the Barisan Nasional (BN) and two candidates from the opposition Pakatan Rakyat pact.

Rosman Isli of the BN is facing Tan Sri Ibrahim Menudin of PKR and Hadnan Mohamad of PAS.

Rosman, who was accompanied by almost 1,000 supporters, arrived at the nomination centre at the Labuan Matriculation College at 9.09 am and submitted his nomination papers.

His proposer was Labuan Umno acting chief Senator Datuk Yunus Kurus and the seconder, Labuan Umno vice-head Datuk Bashir Alias.

Ibrahim arrived earlier, at 9.07 am, and Hadnan came at 9.12 am.

Returning officer Mistirine Radin confirmed their candidacies.

Rosman told reporters later that he was prepared to take on his opponents but would not take things lightly.

What is important now is to ensure continuity of development of the island for the people. As such, we must ensure a victory with a big mandate from the people, he said.

Rosman expressed confidence that Labuan would remain a BN stronghold and contribute one seat for the coalition.

Unlike in the past, no independent candidate entered the fray despite rumours that two people had wanted to contest as independents.
