The act of controversial blogger Alvin Tan ridiculing the call to prayers (azan) via his latest video clip uploaded to YouTube is prompted by his unsound mind, MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said.

He said a Malaysian citizen of sound mind would not commit such a controversial act, especially in matters involving azan.

"In Malaysia, we want to have a multi-racial society in which the members would respect and understand each other's culture and not to do anything that will cause anger.

"If the Chinese community holds a prayer ceremony and other races make fun of it, how do we react? It's the same with them," he told reporters after opening the Malaysia International Building, Construction and Infrastructure Technology Exhibition (Onebuild) 2015 here Friday.

Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said the act also proved that Tan was being stubborn despite having been rapped by various quarters for insulting Islam through the social media.

"We know that this was not his first time and I think he wants to challenge the government," he added.
