A student of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Tembila campus here, who was involved in a road accident, died 21 hours after being admitted to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.

District police chief, Supt Kamaruddin Zakaria, said the victim, Mohamad Azri Afandi, 19, from Terengganu was a student of the Faculty of Computing at the university.

He said the accident occurred when three students, one riding the motorcycle and the victim and another riding pillion were returning to their hostel after classes about 1.15pm last Thursday.

Initial investigations revealed that the motorcyclist Ahmad Razin Abdul Rashid, 19, while riding his bike with the two pillions suddenly felt faint.

"The rider lost control of his motorcycle and hit the road divider and the motorcycle overturned. Mohamad Azri sustained injuries on the chest."

He was initially treated at Besut Hospital and was later rushed to HUSM, but succumbed to chest injuries at about 11.35 last night.

However, the rider was injured on the right thigh and the other pillion rider Ahmad Faizudin, 19, sustained cuts on his brow and both were treated as outpatients at Besut Hospital.
